Since his election to the Assembly in October 2008, Jeremy has worked hard to hold the ACT Labor government to account and represent his constituents in Molonglo. Prior to joining the Assembly, Jeremy Hanson spent twenty two years serving in the Army in many different roles and locations, both within Australia and overseas. His career has included command of an infantry parachute company, peacekeeping in East Timor, and command of the Australian Army Training Team in Iraq. For his service to the Army, Jeremy was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday Honours. In 2008 Jeremy was awarded an ADF Gold Commendation for his leadership in Iraq. At home with Fleur and the boys.
Jeremy has a master’s degree in Management and Defence Studies from the University of Canberra, a bachelor’s degree from the University of New England, and several other post graduate and associate diplomas. He first came to Canberra in 1986 when he attended Duntroon and following numerous postings, he settled in Canberra where he now lives with his wife Fleur and two young sons.
Jeremy believes Canberra is the best city in Australia in which to raise a family. Active in the local community, he is involved with several organisations, he is a Heart Foundation Ambassador, a Legatee, a Rotarian, and a member of the RSL. He understands the challenges facing local families. He knows what it is like to have children at school and in child care, while balancing work and family commitments with the rising cost of living. Jeremy has the ability and experience to get things done. He will be out and about listening to the community and will be asking for your support to make Canberra a better place for all of us.
